I have recently decided to start using some fun daily holidays to incorporate into our lessons during the week. Today is Floral Design Day. While everything here is currently covered in ice, we still completed a fun craft using flowers that my husband bought us from the store.
Craft Ideas
Pinterest has a ton of cute ways you can use flowers for crafts. Two of my favorites were the DIY Floral Wall Hanging and the Floral Letter Wall Art. The floral wall hanging looks so whimsical and would be perfect for a little girl’s room. The floral letter wall art has an elegant look that would brighten up any space. I think they are both great options when it comes to celebrating Floral Design Day.
Our Craft
I wanted something that would be a little bit easier for my 4-year-old, and that she could keep playing with for a while. I don’t remember where I saw it originally, but I had come across a fun activity using cardboard and knew it would be the perfect craft! It is so simple. I drew a vase and some stems on a piece of cardboard. I poked holes at the top of each stem. I then let my daughter color it how she wanted. I clipped off some flowers for her and she then arranged the flowers in the cardboard how she wanted. This is a great sensory activity, too. My daughter loved feeling the differences in the flower petals. You can watch a video of this activity on my Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/hummingbirdandhousewife/
Read & Watch
We also celebrated by reading The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. This is a wonderful book about a seed’s journey to becoming a flower. My daughter really loves this book, and it is a great way to help kids understand how flowers grow.
We also watched one of my favorite Dr. Seuss movies: Daisy-Head Mayzie. This is just a fun and silly story of a girl with a daisy sprouting on her head.
