This year for our family vacation, we decided to take a trip to San Antonio, Texas. Our main deciding factor was that we wanted to take our daughter to Sea World. I immediately got on the computer after our decision and searched through all the hotels that San Antonio had to offer. It was going to be a long trip, so I did not want anything expensive. I wanted something that was clean, had great amenities, and was in a great location. Hotel Gibbs checked off all of these requirements!

The Hotel

The hotel is beautiful and historic. There were many features from the original construction of the building in 1909 that were preserved inside, including the original elevator doors.

Valet parking is available and made parking a breeze! It is also very convenient. You will definitely appreciate this feature in downtown San Antonio. It can be very difficult to find a place a park, and it was great knowing that we did not have to worry about it and knowing that our vehicle would be safe.

The staff was very friendly and check-in was fast and easy. We received a personal letter from the General Manager at check-in. The letter welcomed us to the hotel, explained some of the hotel’s history, and offered special rates and complimentary welcome drinks at their own 1909 Taproom when booking directly through their hotel website at www.hotelgibbs.com. We also received some coupons for local restaurants.

We arrived a few hours before check-in time but our room was still ready for us. The room was very clean and had more than enough space for our family. The bed was clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of storage in the closet and dresser drawers for all of our clothes.

I was afraid that it would be loud at night since the hotel was downtown and next to a lot of local attractions. I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel was very quiet. There was very little outside noise at all, and we all slept very well.

Amenities

This hotel has a lot of amenities including valet parking, a delicious complimentary breakfast, high-speed Wi-Fi, and daily maid service. They also have their own bar, 24-hour gym, 24-hour business center, and in-room Keurig coffee makers.

Location

This hotel is located right across from the Alamo! We had a partial view of the Alamo from our room. It was very nice to be able to just walk across the street and explore this historic site. We also walked around at night when the Alamo was lit up and took pictures. It is a beautiful sight.

Directly next to our hotel is a strip of local attractions. These include a Tomb Raider 3D ride, arcade games, Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, a Ripley’s Haunted Adventure, Guinness World Records Museum, and Louis Tussaud’s Waxwork Museum. We did five of these attractions and it took us all afternoon. You could easily have a whole day of fun that you could walk to from your hotel! Also, if your child can walk then they are old enough to enjoy the rides.

There were lots of other places that were within walking distance from Hotel Gibbs as well. These included the famous Riverwalk, the Texas Ranger Museum, the mall, and plenty of places to eat.

Conclusion

Hotel Gibbs is a beautiful, historic hotel that is located in an ideal location for family fun! My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and I have absolutely no complaints. I highly recommend this hotel if you plan on vacationing in San Antonio. It is right across the street from the historic Alamo, and there is so much to do as a family within walking distance of the hotel. It is an ideal location for families with children that do not want to load and unload them out of the car every time you want to go do something fun. I promise that you will not be disappointed with your stay here.
