Sorry I have been MIA for a bit. My husband and I are expecting our 2nd child in a month and this pregnancy has been rough, to say the least. It’s like I am experiencing every negative part of pregnancy. I do not have much longer left, though.
If you read my earlier post, you know that we took a family vacation to San Antonio, TX, this year. I shared with you all about our wonderful hotel, but now I want to tell you all about what else we experienced while we were there.
San Antonio Aquarium
We had planned on staying in our hotel on the first day and relaxing. However, I am not good at relaxing on trips. I want to make the most of every day and experience everything we can. So, we ended up going to the San Antonio Aquarium shortly after we arrived.
We had so much fun! They have a wide variety of amphibians, cold water and tropical fish, sharks, reptiles, and many interactive exhibits. They have special animal encounters that you can do, also. These include sloth, kangaroo, iguana, lemur, kinkajou encounters. Children have to be at a certain age for each encounter. Guinn was not old enough for a lot of them, so we decided to just take her in the alpaca exhibit and let her feed them. She loved it!
They also have mermaids at the aquarium on certain days. They also do feedings and put on plays for the children. It was very interactive and we all enjoyed it very much! I would definitely add this to your list of things to do while visiting San Antonio.
Japanese Tea Garden
The most beautiful place that we visited while in San Antonio was the Japanese Tea Gardens. I have never seen anything so breathtaking. It was so peaceful and stunning. The pictures do not do it justice. The gardens are free to visit and they have a house cafe there.
The DoSeum
This was easily one of my favorite places that we visited. So perfect for kids of all ages! They had different sections for different age groups, but you can explore all of the exhibits. I loved watching Guinn play in her area. They had different stations set up where she could play and pretend to be anything that she wanted to be. They even had outfits they could put on as well.
The rest of the areas were very educational and geared toward older kids/adults, but she still had fun exploring them.
They had outside areas as well – complete with bubbles and a treehouse. The treehouse had a music area inside it and it was a lot of fun.
If you can only take your child to one place while you’re in San Antonio then it should be here! I cannot recommend this place enough. You could easily spend a whole day here just letting your child run around and play. Our daughter did not want to leave.
The Texas Ranger Museum/ Buckhorn Saloon
This was a fun place to visit, kill time, and grab some lunch. The museum features over 520 species of wildlife from all over the world. There is also a section features hundreds of authentic Texas Ranger artifacts with automatic handguns, shotguns, badges, and more.
Sea World
The main reason for our trip was Sea World. We had so much fun, but you definitely need more than one day to see everything, especially if you are going with toddlers. We managed to watch three different shows and took her to the kid’s area, and our day was pretty much gone. We didn’t get to visit any animal exhibits.
The shows were great! You need to get in line about 30 minutes before they start if you want to get decent seats. It is amazing to see the animals doing all of their tricks and interacting with the trainers.
There is always an animal show or kid’s show going on. You definitely need to check the map as soon as you get there and plan out what you want to see. If you want to see all of the park then I suggest making this a two-day trip.
Overall, we really enjoyed our vacation to San Antonio. Come back to read my next post about all of the great food we had on this trip!
