*All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

I made my first visit to St. Louis in October 2016. It was a surprise birthday trip for my husband (who was my boyfriend at that time). It was our first mini-vacation together. We both fell in love with St.Louis on that visit and we return any chance we get.

St.Louis has plenty to do for all ages. There are fantastic places to eat and stay, and a never-ending amount of things to do. Because of that, this will definitely not be the only post I make about St.Louis.

The Stay

We stayed at Seven Gables Inn in Clayton, MO, which was about 17-20 minutes from downtown St.Louis. I chose this place because I wanted a romantic, cozy stay for his birthday weekend and our first adventure together.

The staff at Seven Gables were amazing! Very friendly and helpful. Our room was a suite with a king bed. The beds were so comfortable and the pillows were soft, but firm. After long days of exploring St.Louis, we had no issues passing out in this bed.

One of the most comfortable beds that we have slept on.

The bathroom was large and spacious with a nice shower. The window in our room overlooked the beautiful outdoor patio.

I was surprised that our room was so quiet since it was near to the patio and the Irish Pub downstairs. I think the pub has recently closed down, though. We usually stay closer to downtown when we go back to St.Louis, but this is by far my favorite place that we have stayed.

Fitz’s

The first place we tried in St. Louis was Fitz’s Root Beer. I always research places to eat before trips and I was drawn to Fitz’s because of their outrageous dessert floats!

They bottle the root beer right in the middle of the restaurant. It is a neat thing to experience. Children and adults line up against the glass to watch as they wait for their food.

They had very large portions of food. My husband got a burger with with French fried onions on it. He said he enjoyed it.

Hubby’s burger

I got a burger with a fried egg on Texas toast. I am a sucker for fried eggs on a burger. It’s so good. If you haven’t tried it then you need to. Right now. It will change your life. Unfortunately, my egg was fried hard. The best part about having a fried egg on your burger is the yolk running out when you bite into it. However, the burger was still pretty tasty.

Now, dessert was A-W-E-S-O-M-E! They have all kinds of root beer floats that are just outrageous. We got a s’mores float that we could not finish because it was so big, but it was worth it.

Fitz’s also has bottomless root beer, so you can try as many flavors as you like. This is my husband’s favorite thing to do. Fitz’s root beer is so much better than any other brand I have tasted. There are only a couple of places that carry Fitz’s here in Arkansas, and we make sure to grab some every time we see it. It is definitely worth just going there for the root beer, alone.

Soulard Farmer’s Market

We love going to Farmer’s markets. Unfortunately, the one at home is kind of sad. There are maybe 10 people at the most that set up to sell their goods. Soulard Farmer’s Market was definitely a different experience for us, and it is one we make sure we have time for on every trip.

You can get fresh breads, fruits, plants, and even margaritas! I have to say, their margaritas are on point! It is usually pretty crowded, but it is such an enjoyable experience. We like to grab a drink and something fresh to eat and walk around and look.

My hubby bought me one of these beautiful succulents that I somehow managed to kill…
You can also get Shark and Alligator here.

I highly recommend making Soulard Farmer’s Market a part of your trip. There are plenty of fresh foods to snack on and enjoy while you walk around.

Find out what we did on the rest of the trip in part two of Falling in Love with St. Louis.
